Offered here for your bidding evaluation is this large antique cloth doll body that may be helpful in completing a doll with a suitably sized shoulder head. This doll body is complete with the legs, but the antique leather lower arms and hands have disintegrated and are no longer present. The body comes wearing antique undergarments in very fragile condition, and an older vintage two piece dress that is stylistically appropriate. When fitted with a shoulder head, the doll would measure about 28 to 30 inches tall. As it is, the body measures 24” long from the top of the torso to the bottom of her shoes. The torso would fit a shoulder head of about 8” at the widest part. The body is made from a muslin material that is showing age darkening and staining. It feels like it is stuffed with sawdust. I didn’t fully undress the body because the underclothes are so fragile, but I think I will tomorrow, adding more pictures to the listing. Some of the sawdust has shifted about under the weight of a heavy shoulder head, leaving the waist area a little flimsier than the firmly stuffed upper and lower torso. I didn’t find any sawdust leakage.

There are three layers of undergarments—a chemise, half slip, and bloomers. I love the sawtooth detail that lines the neckline of the gown and the hem of the slip. All of the clothing has yellowed and browned, with little holes worn through from the acidic nature of the stuffing material in the body. The tall antique black stockings are pinned on. The high buttoning leather boots are also worn, but still very displayable. They appear to be a child’s size one. The two piece outfit is appropriately styled. Made from a crinkly burgundy taffeta, it has a blue sheen to it. The jacket has a crocheted lace front placket and cloth covered black buttons, however it closes with silver snaps, giving away its more recent creation period of, say, the last half of the 20th century. The taffeta is somewhat brittle, with some tiny holes worn through here and there. It is very dusty and in need of cleaning.

This dressed doll body was found at the estate of a lifelong doll collector. So was the large shoulder head shown in the last couple of pictures. They may well have gone together at one time. I am selling the dressed body separately, as I just don’t know. The 9” shoulder head is listed separately if you are interested. Please have a look, keeping in mind that I would be happy to combine shipping whenever practical! If more than one item is won, please be sure to ask for, and WAIT for an invoice combining shipping BEFORE paying.
