some paint has worn off.  Train cars are wired together.  Vehicles have small points in the bottom to help attach to the cake.  The holes for the candles seem rather small.  But I seem to remember little inserts that hold the candles.  anyway whether you use candles or not in the train, It does make a very cute decoration.
