This is a vintage Lionel 628 Northern Pacific 027 gauge diesel switcher locomotive – a classic postwar center cab model from 1956-1957. This Lionel 628 has a black shell with yellow Northern Pacific lettering, modeled after the real GE 44-ton switcher. Produced only briefly in 1956 and 1957, these short-run center cab diesels are a neat piece of Lionel history for postwar collectors or restorers.

Condition Details: Sold as Parts/Not Working. The locomotive is generally clean with paint generally intact, showing some scratches and small chips (mostly on the railings) consistent with age and use. Tested on a short track section – the motor hums when powered, but the light does not work and it does not move forward or in reverse. No box or extras included.
