This Dutch East Indies Colonial Penny Duit is a great coin for any collector or history enthusiast.

Also known as a New York Penny, this World Coin is a must-have for any collector interested in European coins and Dutch history. The so-called “New York Penny” is actually a Dutch VOC (Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie) copper coin, or duit, minted in the 1700s for use in the Dutch East Indies.

The Dutch VOC (Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie), founded in 1602, was the world’s first multinational corporation and the first to issue stock. It held a trade monopoly in Asia on behalf of the Dutch Republic, building a vast commercial empire across Indonesia, India, Japan, and beyond. At its peak, the VOC operated its own army, navy, and colonial governments, becoming one of history’s most powerful trading companies before dissolving in 1799.
