Offered here is a scarce and attractive 1880 fifty dollar Legal Tender featuring Benjamin Franklin and the allegorical vignette of Columbia. Large size fifties of this period are seldom encountered in problem free mid grade, and the face of this example presents with striking originality, bold inks, and excellent eye appeal for the assigned grade.

The reverse carries the typical circulation evidence for this issue along with minor edge nicking, a small area of foreign substance, and light discoloration noted by PCGS. These are common for the type and do not detract from the strong presentation of the face.

The design work on these early Legal Tenders is among the most detailed of the nineteenth century. Franklin’s portrait is sharply rendered and the red scalloped seal remains vibrant. The note is housed in a fresh PCGS Banknote holder, which provides clarity on condition and ensures long term preservation.

A pleasing and collectible example of a tough denomination that rarely surfaces with this level of visual appeal.
