Description
Gibson 1920 L-3 Sunburst w/ Hard Case Used Acoustic Guitar
This is a rare 1920 L-3 with the tailpiece and pickguard still in their original condition. Based on the specifications and serial number, this guitar appears to be from the 1920s. It features the original pin-mounted trapeze tailpiece and bridge, as well as the rare pickguard, all in original condition! While the tuners have been replaced, this guitar remains highly original. The spruce archtop, maple back and sides, and 13.5-inch body recall Gibson's origins as a mandolin manufacturer. The neck features a short 618mm scale length, a 47mm nut, and a fat V-shaped mahogany and ebony fingerboard. The headstock features the Gibson logo and a floral avalon inlay. The soundhole features a beautiful herringbone rosette. The distinctive ebony bridge is also original. The tuners have been replaced with later triple-sets for smooth tuning.
Although there are signs of age and scratches throughout, there are no major repairs or fallen tops, and the neck is in good condition.
The white label inside the sound hole and serial number are still intact.
The frets are thin and low, making it difficult to achieve the playability expected of a modern guitar, but it is surprising that an instrument made over 100 years ago can still be played without any issues.
The sweet, moderately punchy tone that is unique to a short-scale archtop.
