The image is an antique copper engraved view of the city of Amsterdam by French cartographer and engineer Alain Manesson Mallet.
The view shows Amsterdam from its harbor, featuring numerous sailing ships in the foreground and the city skyline with many spires in the background.
The engraving was originally published in the French edition of Mallet's comprehensive five-volume work, Description de l'Univers, in Paris in 1683. The work included a wide variety of information, such as maps of the ancient and modern world, star maps, and descriptions of the customs and governments of various nations. The print is titled "Amsterdam" on a banner near the top, with "Fig. LXXXI." (Figure 81) indicated in the upper right corner.
