Photo Overview

This antique Raphael Tuck & Sons town and city postcard shows a sweeping elevated panorama of Royal Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, UK, titled “Leamington, General View Facing North.” The view looks along the curved, tree lined main avenue with period horse drawn and early motor traffic, flanked by elegant Regency terraces, churches and prominent civic buildings with clock tower rising above the dense townscape in the distance. The image captures Leamington Spa at its Edwardian height, highlighting parks, villas and the orderly grid of streets that made the resort famous.

Royal Leamington Spa boomed in the 19th and early 20th centuries after its mineral springs were promoted as a fashionable health resort, attracting wealthy visitors and funding the grand crescents and gardens seen here. Raphael Tuck & Sons “Town & City” series cards like this were popular souvenirs and are now collected both for their architectural detail and as social history records of British spa towns before later redevelopment and wartime damage. Add this scarce early Leamington view to your collection today before another serious UK postcard collector snaps it up.

Print analysis:
This is an unused divided back Raphael Tuck & Sons "Town & City" series postcard printed in collotype/halftone with a photographic look, not a real photo postcard. The royal warrant style and divided back layout date it to the Edwardian era, likely c1905-1910, close to when the negative was made, so it is an early Type 2 printed postcard issue rather than a Type 1 photographic print.
