Vintage H. Penzel Albert-System Clarinet – Early 20th Century
For sale is a beautiful vintage Albert-system clarinet, very likely made by H. Penzel in Markneukirchen, Germany, circa 1910–1930. (Please see the stamp photo, I’ve done as much digging as I can into this instrument!) It’s stamped “A” (Albert system) with the “H P” maker initials underneath.
Features:
• Albert/Simple system keywork (pre-Boehm design)
• Rosewood / Palisander body (warm reddish-brown grain)
• Nickel-silver keys and ferrules
• German-bore design
• 4-piece clarinet including the original metal mouthpiece
Condition:
The instrument is sold as found but looks to me to be in generally good order, the wood is in good cosmetic condition for its age but has odd expected marks and wear.
Keys move but will need a service, pads, and regulation if intended for playing.
Ideal for a collector, restorer, display piece, or for someone who plays/collects German or Albert-system instruments.
Approx. Age: c.1910–1930
Maker: H. Penzel (Markneukirchen), based on stamp and construction features
Wood: Rosewood (Palisander)
These early German/Bohemian Albert clarinets are increasingly hard to find, especially in rosewood.
Sold as-is for restoration but may well work just fine as it is, I’m no player, just an admirer!
