Chokwe female mask, also known as a Mwana Pwo or Pwo mask created by the Chokwe People of the Congo

They are primarily located in Angola, Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. 

Key features include:

·        Distinctive facial design with elongated, almond-shaped eyes and a prominent forehead

·        Geometric patterns carved or painted in contrasting black and white/cream colors

·        Fiber or raffia attachments around the sides, resembling hair or a headdress

·        Symmetrical design with chevron and linear motifs

These types of masks traditionally served important ceremonial and ritual purposes, including initiation rites, social ceremonies, and cultural celebrations. They were worn by dancers during performances and were believed to embody ancestral spirits or important cultural figures.
