This coin was issued by the Princely State of Hyderabad under the rule of Mir Mahbub Ali Khan II (reigned 1869–1911), one of the most prominent Nizams of Hyderabad. The coin reflects the Islamic Hijri calendar, with dates such as AH 1306 (1889 AD) being common. Hyderabad was a semi-autonomous princely state under British suzerainty, and its coinage was distinct from British India, often featuring Persian inscriptions and local mint marks.

The obverse of the coin typically features the Persian letter "M" for Mahbub above the "k" of "Mulk", and inscriptions referencing Asaf Jah, Nizam al-Mulk, the dynastic title of the Nizams.
