As a teenager, he met Bruce Springsteen, a fellow outcast and kindred spirit, who became a lifelong friend and bandmate. Known as Miami Steve, Van Zandt became a key figure in the E Street Band as they rose to Rock and Roll stardom.

In the early '80s, Van Zandt left E Street to chart his own path. He redefined himself as Little Steven, a politically charged artist and performer, fell in love with Maureen Santoro, who expanded his creativity, and traveled the world as an artist and journalist, seeking to understand and inspire change. His most notable achievement was organizing "Sun City," an anti-apartheid anthem that played a pivotal role in dismantling South Africa's racial segregation and freeing Nelson Mandela.

By the '90s, Van Zandt had lived two distinct lives—one as a Rock and Roll icon and the other as a passionate activist. Then came a third chapter: David Chase cast him in The Sopranos as Silvio Dante, the loyal consigliere to Tony Soprano, echoing his real-life bond with Bruce Springsteen.
