Introduction

Milkweed Blood Flower (Asclepias curassavica), also known as Bloodflower Milkweed, is a striking annual or short-lived perennial prized for its dense clusters of deep red flowers with contrasting yellow or orange centers. Growing upright on sturdy green stems, each plant produces multiple vibrant flower clusters, creating a bold, eye-catching display in garden beds, borders, and pollinator-friendly landscapes. Seed Sowing Instructions

Soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours prior to planting to improve germination. Sow seeds indoors 4–6 weeks before the last frost or directly outdoors after danger of frost has passed. Plant seeds 1/4–1/2 inch deep in well-drained soil under full sun. Germination typically occurs in 10–14 days. Thin seedlings to provide space for healthy growth and strong stems.

Milkweed Blood Flower thrives in full sun and moderately fertile, well-drained soil. Water regularly during establishment, then reduce watering as plants mature; they tolerate some drought.
