The
De Minimis exemption is a U.S. trade rule that allows low-value goods
(under $800) to enter the country without paying duties or taxes.The rule is designed to simplify and expedite the import process for small shipments.
The repeal of the De Minimis rule removes the previous exemption, which
means that all goods – with the exception of gifts sent by private
individuals worth less than $100 and packages with a declared value of
more than $800 – must have duties paid before arriving in the United
States.The carrier is responsible for ensuring compliance.The
rule change will take effect on August 29, 2025 and will have a
significant impact on international postal services and e-commerce.
On August 15, U.S. authorities announced the details of the implementation and the requirements.Due
to the short timeframe to adapt to the new requirements, PostNord , and
othere postal services in Europe, is temporarily stopping shipments to
the US and Puerto Rico until a solution that meets the requirements has
been developed and implemented.
