The
Uncle Sam registering banks were first produced in 1907 by the Durable Toy
& Novelty Company. The company introduced a three-coin model, which is what
is pictured, in 1923. These banks were designed to be rugged and kid-proof,
made of heavy gauge steel with enamel paint. The bank accepts nickels, dimes,
and quarters, and once a certain amount is deposited, the front panel unlocks
to allow access to the saved money.
