Larimar is a rare and magnificent precious stone, known for its shades of blue reminiscent of tropical waters.
Origin
Unique origin: Larimar is only in the Dominican Republic, mainly in the province of Barahona.
Official discovery in 1974 by Miguel Méndez and Norman Rilling, although local populations have known its existence for much longer.
Features
Colors: varies from white to light blue, greenish blue and deep blue.
Motifs: often marked with wavy or cloudy patterns reminiscent of the sea or the sky.
Hardness: 4.5 to 5 on the Mohs scale, which means that it is relatively tender and requires delicate manipulation.
Training
Larimar is formed in volcanic cavities, where mineral solutions rich in elements such as copper (responsible for blue color) crystallize.
Uses
Jewelry: very popular in rings, pendants, earrings and bracelets, often mounted on silver or white gold.
Decorative objects: sometimes cut in sculptures or art objects.
Symbolism and beliefs:
Nicknamed the "Atlantis stone", due to its resemblance to the ocean and its spiritual associations.
