Important Information About Registration and Vehicle Compatibility

Is This Registration Plate Suitable for My Vehicle?

Registration numbers carry a unique date code that corresponds to the vehicle’s age. It’s essential to ensure compatibility before purchasing, as UK law prevents you from placing a newer registration on an older vehicle. We’ve provided examples below to help you determine the correct age compatibility for your vehicle:

  • Prefix Style (e.g., AXXX XXX) – For plates issued between August 1983 and July 1984, suitable for vehicles registered from 1983 or newer. For example, an "A" prefix can only be assigned to vehicles registered in 1983 or later.

  • Current Style (e.g., XX51 XXX) – Plates like "XX02 XXX" were first issued between March  2002 and August 2002 and are only suitable for vehicles registered from 2002 onward.

  • Dateless Plates – Plates issued before 1963 are "dateless" and can be assigned to any vehicle, regardless of age.

If you are unsure whether this registration plate will be suitable for your vehicle, feel free to contact us - 01543 477745. We're happy to verify this for you before purchase.

Option 1 - We can Send you the Registration Certificate.

Yes, we can send the registration certificate directly to you if you prefer not to have it assigned to your vehicle. If this registration is intended as a gift for someone else, we can personalise the certificate with their details before sending it to you, this takes around 4-7 days to come back to us from the DVLA.

For a truly special gift, we can also send a set of number plates along with the registration certificate, allowing the recipient to enjoy the full experience of their new plate. The best part? All fees are included, so there’s nothing more to pay. We will need a utility as proof of ID for you as the purchaser before we can release the physical number plates in order to comply with UK law.

Option 2 - We Complete the Assignment on Your Behalf with the DVLA

To ensure a smooth and speedy transfer, we will need your vehicle's V5C logbook. Once we have this information, we can process the assignment quickly. If you want us to supply the number plates, also send a utility bill.

Processing Times:
The standard processing time for registration assignments is 3 working days, based on our extensive experience in the industry. While we aim for efficiency, please note this is an estimate and not a guarantee.

What Happens After the Registration is Assigned to My Vehicle?

Once the registration has been successfully assigned, we will send you an email confirmation. You will then have 72 hours to attach the new plates to your vehicle and update your insurer with the registration change. A new V5C logbook will be issued and should arrive within 7-10 days.

The registration is now Assigned to your vehicle, as its registered keeper you have the rights to the registration number.

In the Furture - Keep or Transfer Your Registration Number

Once you have purchased and assigned this registration to your vehicle, it will remain with the vehicle unless you transfer or retain it.

If the vehicle is being sold you should transfer or retain the registration number otherwise the rights will pass to the new keeper.
