Theodor ''Theo'' Osterkamp [1892 1975] was a German flying ace in the First World War who was credited with 32 aerial victories who also served as a fighter pilot during World War II and achieved [6] additional aerial victories, becoming one of only a very few to become an ace in both wars. Osterkamp began his military career in 1914 with the Marinefiegerkorps and joined the Marine Feld Jagdstaffel 1 in 1917 and was quickly promoted to flight commander. Osterkamp achieved 32 aerial victories and was highly decorated for his service during the war. In 1939 Osterkamp was appointed Geschwaderkommodore of Jagdeschwader 51 Fighter Wing and achieved [6] aerial victories during the Battle of Britain bringing his total to 38 aerial victories. In 1960 he was appointed honorary chairman of the Gemeinschaft der Jagdflieger, the Association of Fighter Pilots. Listed for auction is a [TLS] typed letter signed on his personal letterhead, Theo Osterkamp, Generalleutnant. The letter is typed in German untranslated and signed ''Theo Osterkamp'' in blue fountain pen. The letter measures 10.50 x 7.50 inches, trivial toning otherwise in very good condition. The autograph is authentic, uncommon to obtain, and the letter is a desirable example of this noted German World War l and World War II fighter pilot.
