Kenshi Yonezu's 16th single is a double A-side single that serves as the theme song for the movie "Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc" and also serves as the ending theme featuring Hikaru Utada!
The theme song for the film "Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc," "IRIS OUT," written by Kenshi Yonezu, and the ending theme, "JANE DOE" by Kenshi Yonezu and Hikaru Utada, will be released as a double A-side single.
"Chainsaw Man" is based on the popular manga series currently running in "Shonen Jump+" (Shueisha), with a total circulation of over 30 million copies. It was written by the prodigious manga artist Tatsuki Fujimoto, known for a string of hit works including "Fire Punch," "Look Back," and "Goodbye Eri." In 2022, an anime adaptation was aired by animation studio MAPPA ("Jujutsu Kaisen," "Attack on Titan: The Final Season," etc.), garnering critical acclaim not only in Japan but around the world. To date, it is available in over 200 countries and regions. The opening theme song, "KICK BACK," written by Kenshi Yonezu, has been certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), achieving the unprecedented feat of a song with Japanese lyrics. Receiving a global response, it became a smash hit, with 200 million views of the music video, 140 million views of the anime's opening video, and over 500 million cumulative streams.
And now, the highly popular "Reze" episode, which continues the story from the final episode of the TV anime, has been adapted into a film. The story follows protagonist Denji, who meets a girl named Reze by chance and finds himself at the mercy of her, as he plunges headfirst into an unpredictable fate. The film is set to premiere on Friday, September 19th, with release planned for over 50 countries and regions, starting with Japan.
