“Not-a bad, for a baby!”
—Baby Mario, Mario Kart: Double Dash!!
Baby Mario (originally formatted as baby Mario) is the infant form of Mario who appears as a major character in the Yoshi's Island series. Baby Mario, with Yoshi helping him, is often rescuing his younger brother, Baby Luigi, who is carried off by Kamek in several games. Shortly after his debut, Baby Mario has become a recurring playable character in spinoff games of the Super Mario franchise.
Adult Mario has been portrayed as an infant in other media, namely in the The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 episode "Toddler Terrors of Time Travel" and the comic "Family Album 'The Early Years'," though Baby Mario is considered a distinct entity from these forms.
Baby Luigi is the infant form of Luigi. In the Yoshi's Island series, he is kidnapped several times by Kamek, where Yoshi, who is potecting Baby Mario, is required to rescue him. Besides the Yoshi series, he has appeared as a playable character alongside his older self in various spin-off titles such as the Mario Kart series, as well as being one of the major protagonists of Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. He is voiced by Charles Martinet, as with his adult counterpart, Mario, Baby Mario, and other characters.
Adult Luigi has technically been first depicted as a baby in the The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 cartoon episode, Toddler Terrors of Time Travel?, but it is only an external temporary transformation, making it distinct from the Baby Luigi character. Luigi has also been depicted as a baby in Family Album "The Early Years", though this appearance and the Baby Luigi character are considered separate entities.
“That's not Baby Mario! He looks decidedly...stouter. And he...smells funny. He must be Baby Wario!”
—In-game text, Yoshi's Island DS
Baby Wario is a character who first appears in Yoshi's Island DS. He is Wario as an infant and has the same greedy personality as him. Baby Wario's special move is "magnetism", in which he pulls out a magnet which attracts coins. His magnet is also capable of raising metallic platforms and moving large, metal boxes.
Wario also appears as a baby in a scene of the German Club Nintendo magazine comic Warios Weihnachtsm?rchen and in the first chapter of the Super Mario Kodansha manga Super Mario: Wario no Mori, though not as the character Baby Wario.
