How to Choose the Right Wave Maker for Your Aquarium?
The flow rate shown on each model is the maximum. The recommended tank length is only a rough guide – different tank shapes work differently. To find the right model, you need to work out the water volume in your tank and consider the type of life you're keeping in it.
Step 1: Work Out Your Water Volume (in litres)
If you have a sump filter, include that water too.
Formula:
Length (cm) × Width (cm) × Water height (cm) ÷ 1000 = Water volume (litres)
Example:
A tank 100cm long, 50cm wide, with water height 50cm:
100 × 50 × 50 ÷ 1000 = 250 litres
Step 2: Choose the Right Flow Rate Based on What You Keep

| LPS corals (large polyp) | Gentle, intermittent flow | 15–20 times |
| SPS corals (small polyp) | Strong, random flow (like the ocean) | 20–40 times |
| FOT (fish only) | Helps remove waste from the bottom | 10–20 times (or more for heavy stocking) |
Formula:
Required flow (L/H) = Water volume (litres) × Suggested multiplier
Step 3: Example – 250 litre tank
LPS corals: 250 × 15 to 250 × 20 = 3,750 – 5,000 L/H
SPS corals: 250 × 20 to 250 × 40 = 5,000 – 10,000 L/H
