DESCRIPTION

The seventh edition of this work, which was first published in 1853.

This satirical "autobiography" of the human stomach offers witty observations on various foods and their effects on digestion. 

Undated; dated circa 1855 via the British Library.

Inscription of H. H. Baker to front pastedown, and of Arthur L. Mason to the head of the leaf following the title page.

Through this imaginative narrative, Whiting provides both entertainment and insights into the dietary habits and medical understanding of his time.


CONDITION

In a quarter morocco binding, with marbled paper covered boards. Minor losses of leather to back strip head and tail, with significant rubbing to joints, board perimeters, and back strip head and tail. Front hinge strained, with board somewhat tender. Inscription to front pastedown. Internally, binding strained. Inscription to head of leaf following title page. Pages bright, with spotting and handling marks throughout.
