For sale is a footed soup bowl for the US Army Department of Medicine by Shenango China of Pennsylvania. The footed bowl features a pair of red stripes just below the exterior rim with the seal printed in a single location. in the same color. The seal has a caduceus at the center surrounded by text for United States Army Medical Department. Likely produced during WWII, the faint green backstamp dates from the 1920s until 1950s.
This piece is in good condition with no damage and gentle wear including utensil wear and shelf wear on bottom. There is a semi-circular, shallow crease on the interior bottom which appears fully glazed (photograph 10). There is a glaze pop on exterior. The bowl is marked with faint green stamp for Shenango China, New Castle, Pennsylvania. Made in the USA.
