Yet another product from the innovative brain trust at elysia, the xpector is a dual Class A headphone amp and monitor controller with advanced monitoring features. From studio recording, overdubbing, and mixing to audiophile-quality music enjoyment at home, the xpector has you covered. Housed in elysia’s rugged, compact qube chassis with 12 audio connections on the back plate, the xpector goes where you need it and tackles any task. With its customizable engineer and artist feeds, the xpector lets everyone hear what they need to. Want to monitor via speakers? No problem. Stereo Direct and DAW inputs feed signals to the corresponding mix controllers on the front panel, allowing engineers and artists to tweak their mix to taste. The elysia xpector offers endless configurability. Loop in a mic preamp and feed the output signal to your audio interface. Tracking a rhythm section? Daisy-chain multiple elysia xpector units to give each musician a custom mix — all latency-free. With its impressive versatility and sonic excellence, the elysia xpector is a value-packed investment in smooth-running sessions that produce stellar results.
The elysia xpector houses two high-end headphone amplifiers. Recording engineers and artists generally need to hear very different mixes, and the xpector obliges with mirrored engineer and artist headphone feeds and customizable parameters for each. Experienced producers know that vocalists are particularly sensitive to what they hear in their ’phones, and to coax out the best performance, each singer is going to require something different. Many singers flat-out don’t like headphones, and some perform with one earcup off as a coping mechanism. As opposed to instrumentalists, vocalists experience acoustic resonance in their larynx and head as they perform. Add to that the sound from headphones, and you have competing vibrational forces that can distract the singer from the performance at hand. Therefore, in addition to a customized artist mix that may favor, let’s say, the chord layer of an arrangement, the xpector offers broad tone control for the artist feed via a 2-band shelving equalizer. This allows for quick overall tweaks that can sometimes spell the difference between a keeper performance and an incomplete take.

Laying down a DI guitar, bass, or keyboard part in the control room, hotel room, or green room? There’s no need for headphones; send the xpector’s balanced XLR outputs to a pair of powered monitor speakers and you have a masterful monitor controller with superior audio quality and pinpoint three-dimensional stereo imaging. One press of the speaker button activates the speakers while muting the engineer headphones. If you frequently switch between headphones and speakers with different volume levels, reach for the Trim control to balance and adjust the volume differential between speakers and cans. Determine whether your speakers or headphones should be the output reference for the trim adjustment by using the Swap switch.
As an engineer, you need to routinely check various aspects of the mix to make critical decisions and assess compatibility on real-world playback systems —which is why the engineer feed includes monitoring functions such as mono, M-S (mid-side), and solo modes for left and right channels, all controlled from an intuitive rotary switch. Impressive so far, but there’s more! Connect up to two stereo inputs and mix between both input signals. There’s a separate mix controller for each signal, so you can quickly boost or attenuate the volume one without affecting the other. Need to quickly check the direct signal? Turn the DAW control all the way left. Set up your custom mix of the two signals and adjust the headphone volume with the level control — easy peasy. However many ways you deploy it, the xpector delivers the exceptional sound quality that we’ve come to expect from elysia, thanks to its purist Class A circuitry and ultra-low-noise internal power supply.
