Proper 8-ply maple shells

When it comes to drum tonewoods, few can hold a candle to the traditional beat of a maple kit like the Design series from DW. That’s because maple provides a very warm foundational tone overall, presenting excellent definition and punch to excel in just about any mix you place it in, live or in the studio. It’s also sensitive enough to catch on to those nuances that make your sound uniquely you without drying out the tone so much that it loses presence. Knowing that DW gave the Design series a full-fledged 8-ply maple shell set formed using the company's exclusive alternating grain HVLT process, you can rest assured each drum will sing with a strong and tonally pure sound.

In addition to its tonal character, DW also optioned the Design series with carefully cut 45-degree bearing edges across the toms and 60-degree bearing edges for the bass drum. Why does this make a difference? At 45 degrees, each tom engages with the vibration of the batter head with perfectly balanced responsiveness, allowing the player to extract the most energy from both elements. For the bass drum, a 60-degree bearing edge helps further enhance the punch and low-end presence for a backbeat that lands with absolute authority.
