Madrone(Arbutus menziesii) aka Madrona, Strawberry tree. Beautiful looking tree with smooth red trunk with glossy leaves, native to the west coast of the US. Domestic Exotic!!   Fine grain, easy to work with hand tools.  It is famous for its dense burls but not for its wood. Good substitute for Hard Maple as they are dead-on similar in density. The wood is pinkish in color and heavy, and very hard to cure. Therefore, one rarely sees a product made of this wood. The tap-tone is card-boardy but will make a nice boutique guitar that is pretty to look at and decent sounding due to its high density.
