Alvin Cullum York [1887 1964] better known as Sergeant York was one of the most decorated American soldiers during World War I who was awarded the Medal of Honor. Sergeant York received his award for his actions during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive in France. During the offensive Sergeant York lead an attack on a German machine gun nest which resulted in the destruction of the machine gun nest, the recovery of 35 machine guns, the killing of 25 German soldiers and the capture of 132 others. Listed for auction is an attractive display which contains the autograph of Alvin Cullum York. The autograph is signed on a card ''Sgt Alvin C. York'' in black fountain pen. The card measures 5.00 x 3.00 inches and is in fine condition. The display is centered around a military image of Sergeant Alvin York. Mounted below is the autograph as described above along with a professionally engraved plaque which reads as follows, ''Alvin York December 13, 1887 - September 2, 1904. Sergeant York was one of the most decorated United States Army soldiers of World War I. He earned the Medal of Honor for leading an attack on a German machine gun nest, gathering 35 machine guns, killing at least 25 enemy soldiers and capturing 132 prisoners. York's Medal of Honor action occurred during the United Sates-led portion of the Meuse-Argonne Offensive in France, which was intended to breach the Hindenburg line and force the Germans to surrender. He earned decorations from several allied countries during WW 1, including France, Italy and Montenegro. The display is very attractive and has been professionally assembled as follows. Each item within the display has been triple matted in a green outer linen matte and accented with a silver and a black inner matte. The display has been completed in a silver ornate wood frame to the dimensions of 22.00 x 13.00 inches. The display is very attractive, the autograph is authentic, and the display will be a desirable addition to any military collection.
