3M VHB RP16 DOUBLE SIDED ADHESIVE CIRCLES, 0.500” DIAMETER, SOLD BY THE CIRCLE
3M VHB RP16 DESCRIPTION
3M VHB Tape RP16 is a 0.016inch (0.4 mm) thick, gray, conformable foam tape with a multi-purpose acrylic adhesive on both sides. 3M VHB RP16 bonds to a broad range of substrates, even dissimilar ones. Metal surfaces, glass surfaces, plastic surfaces, painted surfaces and even epoxied surfaces are easily bonded together with 3M VHB RP16. Demanding, industrial environments are no challenge for the Very High Bond of 3M VHB RP16. It’s 100% resistant to: water & salt water, hydraulic fluid, motor oil (10W30), glycol antifreeze and 90% resistant to kerosene. In addition to high solvent resistance, 3M VHB RP16 has excellent range of temperature resistance. It can maintain its Very High Bond (VHB) in environments as low as -20˚F and as high as 200˚F. Even at -20˚ F, 3M VHB RP16 would require over 95 pounds of force per square inch to break away from the surface it’s adhered to. 3M performs its low temperature testing by adhering small aluminum panels to airplane wings and then flying them miles up where the temps drop (yes, really). So, if it performs well at high altitude in low temperatures, chances are it will meet your bonding needs at sea level, or below sea level as it’s water resistant.

** During Resistance Tests, 3M VHB RP16 was taped between stainless steel and aluminum foil and then Immersed in solvents for 72 hours. Continuous submersion in chemical solutions is not recommended. It is presented to show that occasional chemical contact should not be detrimental to tape performance in most applications during ordinary use.
3M VHB RP16 THERMAL EXPANSION & CONTRACTION
3M VHB Tapes can perform well in applications where two bonded surfaces may expand and contract differentially. Assuming good adhesion to the substrates, the tapes can typically tolerate differential movement in the shear plane up to 3 times their thickness.
3M VHB RP16 BOND FLEXIBILITY
While an advantage for many applications where allowing differential movement is a benefit, the tape bonds are typically more flexible than alternative bonding methods. Suitable design modifications or periodic use of rigid fasteners or adhesives may be needed if additional stiffness is required.
3M VHB RP16 PERFORMANCE IN SEVERE COLD
Applications which require performance at severe cold temperatures must be thoroughly evaluated by the user if the intended use will subject the tape product to high impact stresses. Read the 3M technical bulletin “3M VHB Tape Cold Temperature Performance” for additional information.
