Trembits were used by the inhabitants of Transcarpathia as a kind of means of communication. This is an analogue of mobile communication of the past. The sound of this instrument in the mountains reverberates tens of kilometers away. The trembits were played by shepherds who were gathering a flock of sheep for grazing. Melodies on trembits and Christmas carols were performed.

Nowadays, there are very few people who make trembits. The trembita was even recognized in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's longest woodwind instrument.
