I am delighted to offer for sale this set of eight oval steak/dinner plates by Govancroft of Glasgow. These brown stoneware plates have black flecks and look very similar to round plates which I have seen, which have the Lauffer name, alongside Govancroft, on the bottom.

The full mark here is hard to decipher, but the name Govancroft is there. I think the rest of the wording is 'Stoneware, Made in Scotland (or Glasgow)'.

The plates are in very good condition.  Most of the plates have one or two small chips to the base underneath - not seen, and don't affect the stability of the plates. A couple of the plates have a small 'wobble', due to the manufacturing process. There are no chips, cracks or repairs to the main body. There are signs of wear and usage, including what looks like a couple of small dents, partly through stacking over the years. Compared to photos of other plates on the net, I'd say these are in really good condition. There is loads of life left in these plates - please see my feedback for comfort.

This seems to be a really rare shape - all the other ones I have found are round. Grab this opportunity while you can.
