'Seven Types of Ambiguity' is an important work of literary criticism, a key part of the foundation of the New Criticism school, which helped to usher the school into the United States.

By William Empson, an English literary critic and poet, known as one of the greatest literary critics of his century. 

Letter from the linguist and classical scholar John Chadwick loosely inserted, regarding one of Empson's other works, 'The Structure of Complex Words', in particular on his chapter on dictionaries.


CONDITION

In the original publisher's cloth binding, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, smart. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Spine is a little faded. A few light marks to the cloth. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto of the front endpaper. Dust wrapper is worn, with chips and closed tears, larger chip to the tail of the spine, and larger closed tear to the front flyleaf. Wraps are age-toned, heavier to the spine. Light marks and ink to the wraps. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
