This copy belonging to American painter, Albert Gallatin Hoit, who hailed from Boston, and was known for his portraits of notable figures, including William Henry Harrison and Daniel Webster. With Hoit's signature to the front blank. 

Written by Larkin B. Coles, an American physician, minister, and activist who was known for his early campaigning against the "deadly narcotic" of tobacco.

This highly informative scientific work explores the natural principles of health and medicine, with a particular focus on cures without drugs. Coles presents the influence of diet and lifestyle on health, providing an early insight into mental wellbeing, healthy reproduction and dietetic customs.

CONDITION

Bound in the publisher's cloth. Externally, generally smart, with light bumping to the extremities. Rubbing causing a little loss to the spine head and tail and the extremities. Small tear to the tail of the front joint. The odd mark to cloth. Light age toning to endpapers. Front hinge is a touch strained, but holding firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright with the occasional light scattered spotting. Ink inscription to front blank.
