20 historic structures, a parade site and rolling prairie are the remains of Fort Scott, established in central Kansas just over the border from Missouri at what was the edge of the settled territory in 1850. For the next quarter century it was used as a supply base and to provide security in this turbulent area during the push westward. Named after General Winifield Scott, who achieved fame during the Mexican-American War, the Fort supplied the settlers and protected the peace.
