MORE THAN 35 YEARS AT THE SERVICE OF THE EXQUISITE COLLECTOR, FOR WHOM I THANK.

THIS IS A COMMEMORATIVE MEDAL FROM THE ARGENTINE PAVILION AT THE INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION OF ARTS AND TECHNIQUE IN MODERN LIFE HELD IN PARIS IN 1937.

ON ITS FRONT THERE IS AN ALLEGORY REFERRING TO THE RIVERS THAT RUN THROUGH THE CAPITALS OF BOTH COUNTRIES, ARGENTINA AND FRANCE, THE SENA IN PARIS AND EL PLATA IN BUENOS AIRES. BOTH RIVERS ARE REPRESENTED BY NAKED MEN AS HAS BEEN USUAL SINCE ANTIQUITY.

THE MEDAL IS SIGNED BY THE SCULPTOR GONZALO LEGUIZAMÓN PONDAL.

He was born in Buenos Aires in 1890 and died in 1944. He received his initial training from Lola Mora; later, in 1907, he managed to travel to Europe to further his studies. In Rome, he took courses with Barbella and, in Paris, he followed the guidance of Anglada Camarassa. Upon his return to the country, he held important positions such as being a member of the Argentine Organizing Committee for the 1937 Paris International Exposition, of the National Commission of Fine Arts and of the Board of Directors of the Association of Friends of the Museum of Fine Arts. He also held the positions of Treasurer of the Society of Watercolourists, Pastellists and Engravers, and President of the Argentine Society of Plastic Artists. He participated in the National Salon from 1911 to 1914, from 1917 to 1920, in 1922, 1923, 1926, 1932, 1938 and from 1942 to 1944; and was Guest of Honor at the Annual Santa Fe Salon in 1934. Among other distinctions he obtained the First Prize at the National Salon of 1918; Medals at the Paris Salon in 1912 and 1927; the Second Municipal Prize at the National Salon of 1922; the Gold Medal at the Córdoba Salon in 1933; the Grand Acquisition Prize at the National Salon of 1938; and the Gold Medal at the Rosario Salon of 1938. His works developed in multiple genres, but he specialized in heads and portraits of children.
