I think the doll is made SHISHI a motif. SHISHI means concatenation and lion. The doll is one of the cloth dolls.

SHISHI is one of the big programs of the KABUKI.  The SHISHI is usually performed by two people.

Generic name of clothes wears doll of female type. Clothes of Japanese dances such as Wisteria Madam FUJIMUSUME and Madam who dips water of sea SHIOKUMI are often worn. They are called OYAMA NINGYO (doll) the female impersonator doll commemorating Jirosaburo Oyama puppet manipulator. The manufacturing method applies to the clothes doll.
