QUEEN MARY’S PINK SAPPHIRE CLUSTER BROOCH
The Original brooch is quite small but it has a great colour and is very sparkly. The centrepiece is a lovely faceted sapphire in a gorgeous shade of pink. It’s surrounded by a halo of diamonds, and then by a cluster of ten larger brilliants. Ten more tiny diamonds are studded around the edge of the brooch.
The brooch was inherited by the Queen from Queen Mary, who wore it occasionally in the 1940s.
The brooch was in the Queen Elizabeth ll collection for more than half a century, but she only really started to wear it with any frequency from about 2009. In November 2010 she wore on a state visit to Oman and after that it became a firm favourite.
The Queen has made multiple appearances wearing the brooch every year. She often wore it for audiences at Buckingham Palace and on diplomatic occasions. It is estimated to worth about £500,000.
