155 mm howitzer motor carriage M41 (also known as M41 Gorilla) was an American self-propelled artillery vehicle built on a lengthened M24 Chaffee tank chassis that was introduced at end of World War II.  Only 85 were produced before cancellation of order at end of 1945.  M41s were used in action in Korean War, where they were useful in providing support during early mobile phase of conflict. Once war ground down to static engagements, M41s employed their mobility to evade counter-battery fire.  Like other contemporary US Army self-propelled artillery, open-topped gun compartment of M41 left crew vulnerable to small arms fire and shrapnel, and sometimes engines were criticized for being underpowered.  Nonetheless, in a conflict in which enemy units frequently infiltrated or overran forward positions, battlefield mobility, defensive firepower, armor of M41 was seen as being greatly preferable to that of towed artillery pieces.  M41 influenced U.S. Army to develop new M109 Paladin self-propelled artillery in 1960s.  M41 was retired after end of Korean War but went on to serve in French Army from 1956 to 1972.

Solido tanks and military vehicles are aptly named, as they are truly “solid” with very heavy die-cast metal bodies.  They are quite detailed, and the quality is fabulous!  Please note that typically, Solido tanks and armored fighting vehicles are made in a 1:50 scale while the support vehicles, which include the jeeps and staff cars, are produced on a slightly larger 1:43 scale.  Also, Solido military and firefighting models are built so well that over 55 years later they are as good as they were when they were built and first sold.  Truly this is quite remarkable!  Solido die-cast models require no gluing or painting.  Each model is an instant display piece or diorama centerpiece straight from box.  Made from die-cast metal, die-cast military vehicles from Solido are 100% true to scale!  Solido military tanks have following features.

·  Heavy die-cast metal construction that has with some plastic components (e.g., antennas).

·  Elevating cannon, & accurate hull in die-cast metal.

·  Accurate moving metal tracks on detailed rotating wheels.

·  Realistic panel lines, access panels, and surface details located at hull.

·  Pad printed markings and placards will not fade or peel like decals.
