This Hausa basket is handmade in Nigeria by the Hausa people of Northern Nigeria. The basket is made from leather and grass and decorated with cream cowrie shells. Cowrie shells are a symbol of wealth and containers with
cowrie shells usually indicated valuable content.
Please note a few damaged areas. One on the bottom from wear and two smaller area on the
upper rim. There is also one cowrie shell missing on the last row near the bottom.
Also note that the larger shells are at the top and smaller ones near the bottom.
It is 10.5 inches in diameter across the top and 7 across the bottom. It is 6 3/4 inches tall and
Weighs 2.14 lbs.
