The 1318K.M.C3 FAG belongs to the group of double-row self-aligning deep-groove ball bearings. This bearing type without a seal is a double-row bearing. Both rows are housed in a spherical raceway in the outer ring. This construction allows the bearing to be self-aligning. This means that any misalignment of the shaft relative to the bearing housing does not adversely affect performance.

These features make the 1318K.M.C3 FAG highly suitable for applications where substantial misalignment or shaft deflections may occur. Also, self-aligning bearings have the lowest friction of all rolling-element bearings. Even at higher speeds, there is only limited frictional heat. These bearings are capable of handling high radial loads. To a lesser extent, they can be axially loaded in both directions.
