Phormium 'Golden Ray' commonly known as New Zealand Flax 'Golden Ray' is an evergreen, clumping, half-hardy shrub. This medium sized phormium has a golden-yellow appeareance with a narrow green centre and golden stripes near the margins.

An ideal plant for creating height and structure in the garden and particularly attractive as a stunning and colourful centrepiece combined with other softer and contrasting planting. It prefers a sunny, fairly sheltered location but will tolerate some partial shade. It grows best in moist, well-drained soil of most types and needs watering well in summer.

Whilst it is fairly hardy, it winters best in milder coastal areas although it is more hardy than some other Phormiums tolerating temperatures down to -10C. It is ideal for a coastal garden, but will also thrive in a sheltered spot in most gardens.

Position: Requires well-drained soil in a sunny or partially shady location.

Planting: Water the plant well remove the pot and plant in a hole large enough or container large enough to avoid disturbing the rootball. Back-fill with soil mixed with compost. Water regularly and throughout the plant's first year of growth.
