This massive feast plate or bowl comes from the Boiken Culture who live in the Prince Alexander Mountains in the East Sepik of New Guinea. Collected off them in the mid 20thC the plate has a rich colour and worn surface from decades of use. It measures 58cm across and weighs just under 6kgs and is much larger and heavier than any others I have handled. There are a few edge chips and a native repair to a crack.
