Antique Pair of German Fairings Fire Stick Holder 19th Century Marked & Numbered.

Fairings have an interesting history. They are generally white glazed porcelain, small, brightly colored boxes or figurines. During the 19th century they were common at county/district fairs. These pieces were often displayed on mantels or near a fire box.

This pair was made in Germany, probably during the latter half of the 19th century, and was made for holding a fire stick (long match or resined pine). They are both marked and numbered.

Considering their age, they are in remarkable condition with expected wear to the glaze (especially on the flower tops) and wear to the gilding. The porcelain is still bright and the colors are exceptional. Very minor roughness can be felt along the tops of the flowers.

They measure approximately 7.75" H x 2.5" W.
