The portable radio receiver of the 2nd class "VEF-12" was produced by the Riga Electrotechnical Plant "VEF" in the installation batch in the autumn of 1967. Serial production of the model began in 1968. The radio receiver, like its predecessor "VEF-Spidola-10", is assembled on 10 transistors and 2 semiconductor diodes, but the circuit, layout of components and parts are different. To improve sound quality, instead of the 1GD-1 loudspeaker, a 1GD-4 VEF loudspeaker was installed, a reliable device for fixing the positions of the drum range switch was used, and scale backlight bulbs were installed. A more efficient AGC was used, a high-frequency tone control was introduced, and higher-frequency transistors of types P422 and P423 were used in the amplifier instead of transistors P41 (P15). It is possible to connect a tape recorder. Power is supplied from 6 373 cells. A set of fresh batteries is enough for 200 hours of operation. RP dimensions 280x192x99 mm, weight 2.7 kg. The radio receiver was produced in different designs, including an export version with HF subbands from 13 meters.
