Frequently Asked Questions – Tempo 3 In 1 Boiling Water Taps

What Does 3 In 1 Mean?

A 3 in 1 boiling water tap provides standard hot water, standard cold water and instant near-boiling water from one kitchen tap system. This gives you everyday hot and cold mixer tap use, plus near-boiling water for drinks, cooking and food preparation.

Is The Tank Included With The Tap?

Yes, where stated in the listing, Tempo 3 in 1 boiling taps are supplied complete with the boiler tank and compatible carbon filter. Please check the listing images and description for the exact items included with your chosen model.

Is The Filter Included?

Yes, where stated in the listing, the tap is supplied with a compatible carbon filter. The filter helps protect the boiler system by reducing debris and scale build-up inside the appliance. It also helps support cleaner, fresher water for everyday use.

What Temperature Is The Boiling Water?

The boiler tank can usually be adjusted between 75°C and 98°C, depending on the model. Most customers use the maximum setting for tea, coffee and cooking, but the temperature can be lowered if preferred.

Is It Actually 100°C Boiling Water?

Most domestic boiling water tap systems heat water to near-boiling temperatures, usually up to around 98°C depending on the boiler setting. This is ideal for tea, coffee, cooking preparation and general kitchen use, but the water should always be treated with care.

How Do I Dispense Boiling Water?

Tempo boiling taps feature a built-in safety operation. To activate the near-boiling water function, press and twist or operate the boiling water control as shown in the installation guide. This safety design helps prevent accidental operation and means the boiling water function is controlled while in use.

Are Instant Boiling Water Taps Safe?

Tempo boiling water taps are designed with safety in mind. The boiling water function uses a safety spring-back style control, helping prevent the boiling water side from being left running accidentally. The tap is fixed in place, so unlike a kettle it cannot be carried around the kitchen while full of hot water. However, the system still dispenses near-boiling water and should always be used responsibly. Children should always be supervised around any boiling water appliance.

Does The Tap Need Professional Installation?

Yes. We strongly recommend installation by a competent plumber or installer. A boiling water tap system is not the same as a standard kitchen mixer tap. It includes normal hot and cold water connections, a boiler tank, a filter and a mains electrical supply, so correct installation is important for safe and reliable use.

What Are The Worktop Requirements For A 3 In 1 Boiling Water Tap?

For most 3 in 1 boiling water taps, the minimum fitting thickness is around 2–3mm, but the white support bracket supplied in the fixing kit must be used where required. The maximum worktop thickness is usually 43mm. If the worktop is thicker than this, the installer may need to router out the underside of the worktop to allow the tap to be fitted securely. Please make sure your installer checks the worktop thickness and fixing kit before installation.

What Power Supply Is Needed?

The boiler tank requires a suitable switched 13 amp socket within reach of the boiler tank. The boiler should be installed in the cabinet beneath the sink, close enough to the tap and filter for the pipework to connect correctly without stretching, twisting or kinking.

Can The Boiler Tank Be Installed Anywhere Under The Sink?

The boiler tank should be installed upright in a suitable position under the sink. The front controls and display should remain visible and accessible. The tank also needs enough space around it for air circulation and should not be installed where it may be exposed to freezing temperatures or excessive moisture.

What Water Pressure Is Required?

Most Tempo 3 in 1 boiling water tap systems require a minimum working pressure of around 1 bar and a maximum working pressure of around 3 bar. Please check the individual product specification for the exact pressure requirements of the model you are buying.

Is It Suitable For Gravity-Fed Systems?

Many boiling water tap systems are not suitable for gravity-fed systems or very low pressure systems. If you are unsure about your water pressure or plumbing setup, please ask your installer to check before purchasing or fitting.

What Do The Connection Letters Under The Tap Mean?

Some 3 in 1 boiling water taps have marked connections underneath the tap body. These markings help the installer connect the tap, boiler and filter correctly.

H = Domestic Hot Water
C = Mains Cold Water
O = Water To Boiler / Filter
I = Boiling Water Inlet / Silicone Hose To Boiler Tank

Why Is Correct Pipework So Important?

A 3 in 1 boiling water tap is not connected like a standard kitchen mixer tap. It has separate connections for normal hot water, normal cold water, water going to the filter and boiler, and boiling water returning from the tank to the tap. If any of these are connected incorrectly, the boiler may not fill, the tap may not dispense properly, water may continue to run, or the system may show an error message.

Should The Pipework Be Flushed Before Installation?

Yes. The supply pipes should be flushed before installation to remove debris. Small particles, dirt or swarf in the system can affect the filter, restrict flow, damage components or cause the system to behave incorrectly.

Can The Silicone Hose Be Cut Or Extended?

No. The pre-installed silicone hose should not be cut, shortened or extended. It must be connected correctly to the boiler tank using the supplied barb fitting and fixing clip. Changing the hose length may affect performance and could invalidate the guarantee.

Can The Hoses Be Kinked Or Twisted?

No. All hoses and pipes should be fitted without sharp bends, kinks or twists. Kinked or twisted pipework can reduce flow, stop the boiler from filling correctly, cause weak flow from the spout or create performance issues.

Does The Boiler Tank Need To Be Filled Before Switching On?

Yes. The boiler tank must be fully primed with water before it is switched on. To prime the tank, open the water supply and operate the boiling water side of the tap until water flows from the spout. On first installation this can take around 90 seconds. Do not switch the boiler tank on until water is flowing from the tap.

Why Is Priming So Important?

The boiler tank must contain water before it starts heating. If the boiler is powered before water is inside the tank, it can show an E3 error message and may not operate correctly. Priming confirms that the tank has filled, air has cleared from the system, and water is flowing before the tank begins heating.

Why Is My Boiler Displaying E3?

An E3 error message normally means there is not enough water inside the boiler tank. This usually happens if the boiler has been switched on before the tank has been fully filled and primed, or if air is trapped inside the system. To resolve this, switch the boiler off and allow it to cool. Then run the boiling water side of the tap until water flows steadily from the spout. Once the tank is full and water is flowing correctly, the boiler can be switched back on and set to the desired temperature. If the E3 message continues after priming, please contact us before continuing to use the boiler.

Why Is My Boiler Displaying E4?

If the boiler displays E4, switch the boiler off at the power supply, unplug it, then plug it back in and switch it on again. If the E4 message continues, please stop using the boiler and contact us for support.

Why Is The Boiler Not Heating?

Please check that the boiler tank is plugged in, the socket is switched on, the tank has been fully primed with water, water flows from the boiling side of the tap before the boiler is powered, the desired temperature has been selected, the circuit breaker or fuse has not tripped, the filter and pipework are correctly connected, and the hoses are not kinked or twisted. The boiler will not usually begin heating until the desired temperature has been selected.

Why Is The Boiling Water Flow Slower Than Normal Hot And Cold Water?

This is normal. The boiling water function is designed with a reduced and controlled flow rate for safety. This helps dispense near-boiling water in a steadier, more controlled way. If the flow appears unusually weak, check that the boiler tank is switched on, the tank has been fully primed, the filter is correctly fitted and the hoses are not kinked or twisted.

Why Does Boiling Water Not Flow Straight Away?

These systems are open vented and non-pressurised, so there can be a slight delay before near-boiling water appears from the tap. After a larger amount of water has been drawn off, there may also be a slightly longer delay while the system refills and reheats.

Why Is My Tap Spitting Or Spluttering?

This can happen if air is trapped in the system, if the filter has not been fully primed, if the temperature is set too high, or if the filter needs changing. Try lowering the boiler temperature slightly and running the boiling water side of the tap for a short time to clear air from the system. If the issue continues, check the filter, pipework, aerator and boiler connections.

Why Is Steam Coming From The Spout?

A small amount of steam can occur because the system is dispensing near-boiling water. If the unit appears to be over-boiling, overheating, spitting heavily or producing excessive steam, switch the unit off immediately. If safe to do so, operate the boiling water handle to release pressure and reduce steam, then contact us for support. Do not continue using the boiler if it appears to be overheating or producing abnormal steam.

Why Is Water Still Running For More Than A Few Seconds After Releasing The Handle?

This can sometimes be caused by air trapped inside the filter or system, especially after first installation. The filter may need to be primed correctly. This usually involves removing the filter cartridge, slowly filling it with water to release trapped air, refitting it upright, then testing the tap again. If the issue continues, isolate the water supply and contact us with photos of the installation before continuing to use the system.

Why Is My Tap Not Turning Off Properly?

If water continues to run after installation, isolate the water supply and check the pipework, filter and boiler connections before continuing to use the system. This can sometimes be caused by incorrect connections, trapped air in the filter, a kinked hose, or the system not being fully primed. Please send us clear photos of the pipework underneath the sink, including the tap connections, boiler connections and filter connections, so we can help check the setup.

Why Is My Tap Not Working With The Boiler?

If the tap has just been installed and does not appear to work correctly with the boiler, the first thing to check is the pipework underneath the sink. The tap, filter and boiler all need to be connected in the correct order. If the filtered water feed, boiler inlet or boiling water return hose is connected incorrectly, the boiler may not fill or the tap may not dispense correctly. Please check the installation instructions carefully and make sure the hoses have been connected to the correct marked points.

Why Is There No Water Flowing?

Please check that the mains water supply is turned on, the isolation valves are open, the tap connections are fitted correctly, the filter is installed correctly, the inlet pipes are not kinked or twisted, the aerator is not blocked, the boiler tank has been primed, and the pipework has been flushed and is clear of debris. If there is still no water flow, switch the boiler off and contact us with photos of the installation.

Why Is The Flow Weak Or Slow?

Slow flow can be caused by a clogged filter, limescale build-up, low water pressure, kinked hoses, twisted pipework, trapped air or debris in the system. The boiling water side will naturally flow slower than standard hot and cold water, but if it is unusually weak, the installation and filter should be checked.

Is It Normal For Water To Drip After Use?

A small amount of dripping shortly after use can be normal. If the tap continues to drip, it may be caused by limescale, debris, trapped air, a blocked aerator or an issue with the cartridge or installation. If dripping continues, please contact us with a short video and photos of the pipework.

Why Is The Water Too Hot?

The temperature setting may be set too high. Reduce the set temperature on the boiler display and allow the system to adjust.

Why Is The Water Not Hot Enough?

Please check that the boiler is powered on, fully primed, and set to the desired temperature. The display usually shows the current tank temperature and the set target temperature. Allow time for the tank to reach the selected temperature.

How Often Should I Change The Filter?

The carbon filter should usually be replaced every 3 to 6 months, depending on usage and local water quality. In hard water areas, it may need to be changed more frequently. Regular filter changes help protect the boiler from debris and scale build-up, support performance and help maintain the guarantee.

Do I Need To Keep Proof Of Filter Changes?

Yes. Please keep a record of filter purchases and filter changes. Proof of filter changes may be requested if a guarantee claim is made, especially where limescale, debris or lack of maintenance may have contributed to the issue.

How Do I Change The Filter?

Switch off the boiler and allow the system to cool before carrying out any checks or maintenance. Remove the old filter cartridge from the filter head, fit the new cartridge securely in place, then run the tap for several minutes to flush the new filter through before use. Always follow the installation guide supplied with your tap, as filter fittings can vary slightly by model.

Does The New Filter Need Flushing?

Yes. After fitting a new filter, run the system to flush the filter before normal use. This helps clear air and any fine carbon particles from the filter before use.

Can I Use The Boiler Without The Filter?

No. The filter should be fitted as part of the boiling water system. The filter helps protect the boiler from debris and scale build-up. Using the system without the correct filter may affect performance and could invalidate the guarantee.

Can I Fit A Different Filter?

We recommend using the correct compatible replacement filter for your system. Using an incorrect filter may affect performance, flow rate, water quality and guarantee cover.

What If I Live In A Hard Water Area?

In hard water areas, filter changes may be required more frequently. Hard water can increase limescale build-up, which can affect flow, performance and the life of the boiler. Regular filter replacement is important.

How Do I Clean The Tap?

Clean the tap with warm water or mild pH-neutral liquid soap, then dry it completely with a soft lint-free cloth. A microfibre cloth is ideal because it is gentle and helps avoid scratching the finish.

What Cleaning Products Should I Avoid?

Do not use bleach, alcohol-based cleaners, vinegar-based cleaners, acidic cleaners, caustic cleaners, abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, steel wool, rough sponges or sharp brushes. Harsh cleaning products can damage the finish and may invalidate the warranty.

Can I Hang Wet Cloths Over The Tap?

We do not recommend hanging wet cloths over the tap. Dyes, chemicals or cleaning residues from cloths may transfer onto the tap finish and cause staining, marking or patterning.

How Do I Descale The Tap And Tank?

Do not open, modify or attempt to service the boiler tank yourself. The best way to protect the system is to replace the filter regularly, keep the pipework clean, and follow the manufacturer’s care instructions. If you believe the system has limescale build-up or needs descaling, please ask a qualified installer or contact us for advice before attempting any work.

Can The Boiler Be Opened Or Repaired By The Customer?

No. Do not open, modify or attempt to service the boiler tank yourself. Repairs should only be carried out by authorised service personnel. Opening the boiler tank may void the guarantee.

What If The System Will Not Be Used For A While?

If the system will not be used for more than 7 days, switch the boiler off using the on/off control. Before using it again, run fresh water through the boiling water side of the tap for several minutes. If the system will not be used for a longer period, the boiler may need to be switched off, cooled and drained in line with the installation manual.

Can The Boiler Freeze?

No. The boiler tank and filter should not be exposed to freezing temperatures. If there is a chance of freezing, the system should be isolated, switched off, cooled and drained in line with the installation guide.

What Should I Do If I See A Leak?

Switch the boiler off and isolate the water supply. Check the connections, washers, silicone tube, flexi tails and filter connections. Do not continue using the system until the leak has been checked and resolved. If you are unsure, ask a qualified plumber or installer to inspect the system.

What Should I Do If The Tap Was Just Installed And There Is A Problem?

Please switch the boiler off and contact us before continuing to use the system. Most early issues are caused by installation, priming, trapped air, incorrect pipe connections or kinked hoses, so we will need to check the setup first.

Please send a clear photo of the pipework underneath the sink, a close-up photo of the tap connections, a clear photo of the boiler tank connections, a clear photo of the filter connections, and a short video showing the issue. Once we can see how the system has been connected, we can advise the next step. If a product fault is confirmed, we will of course help get this resolved.

What Is The Warranty Period?

Tempo boiling taps include a 2 year manufacturer’s warranty, unless stated otherwise in the listing. The guarantee applies to manufacturing defects, subject to correct installation, correct use, proper cleaning, regular filter changes and normal domestic use.

What Is Not Covered Under The Guarantee?

The guarantee does not normally cover issues caused by faulty installation, incorrect pipework, misuse, lack of maintenance, missed filter changes, limescale build-up, accidental damage, modification of the product, normal wear and tear, labour costs, refitting costs, removal costs or consequential damage. Please keep your proof of purchase and proof of filter changes.

Does This Affect My Statutory Rights?

No. The manufacturer’s guarantee is in addition to your statutory rights.
