Old-Time Irish Songs - Tenor Banjo Songbook for Beginners with Tabs and Chords Irish traditional music became better known to the world public only after World War II. But nevertheless, it was one of the main foundations of so-called USA Old-time music. Traditional Irish dance compositions such as jigs and reels are found in almost all American popular music books from the 19th century. Irish traditional ballads and songs, such as The Irish Washerwoman, The Girl I Left Behind Me, and, for example, The Minstrel Boy, written by Thomas Moore (1779–1852), was also well known. Unlike contemporary Irish “traditional” songs, which are now mostly adapted for playing in D major and related scales, the songs collected in this book are written in the form in which they were presented to an American audience more than 150 years ago. In this book, I also did not include the currently popular Irish “folk” songs, such as Molly Malone, The Wild Rover, or Danny Boy from 1913, as these songs were once unknown or did not yet exist. In some cases, these songs are still copyrighted, and on the other hand, these songs do not yet belong to Old-time music. In short, in front of you are 40 wonderful old songs that created contemporary popular music in the western world. Enjoy.
