Here is an authentic GRATEFUL DEAD ticket from August 1970 at the Fillmore West, San Francisco.
This
was in the beginning years for this band and at the time of the whole
Haight Ashbury hippie scene. They, among others like Janis Joplin, Jimi
hendrix and members of The Jefferson Airplane were very popular in the
area at the time and were even living there. The other acts were MILES DAVIS, Stone the Crows and Brotherhood of Light.
The ticket measures roughly 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" and is in great condition, just very light wear. This particular ticket was autographed by the original artist hired by Bill Graham to do the original art work. Bill hired Randy in 1969 and has since become the longest running artist involved with The Fillmore. He might even still be involved to this day.

FILLMORE WEST
This is when Bill Graham Presents was alive and owned the Fillmore and Winterland venues in SF. He decided to have his own promotional posters for the concerts designed in house. First, he would choose an artist to draw and print a poster customized for each individual artist and show. The tickets were just a reduced facsimile of the posters and then typically color-coded to indicate
multiple night engagements. In the late 60's and 70's, the Fillmore West and Winterland were rather special venues that constantly held extended engagements by major performers. This was probably due to being located in SF, which became the focal point for psychedelic music and counterculture in general. San Francisco was the ultimate city for rock concerts and Bill was a rarity by being both a promoter and owning the venues where they could play. So that he could reconcile
sales each night, patrons purchased tickets at the venue box office and
handed them right back over at the door, thus most ending up in the archive
in EX or NM- condition. Today the original Fillmore in SF still operates with Live Nation having been leasing it and it is also expanding the Fillmore 'brand' by naming other venues it owns or leases around the country in cities such as Miami, Phili, Denver, Detroit, DC & NYC.
