BOOK-LORE: A Magazine devoted to Old Time Literature
Volumes I-VI bound in 3 books.
Published by Elliot Stock, London, 1884-1887.
Hardbacks, bound in faux vellum over boards, each measuring 27 x 20.5cm
188, 187, 187, 188, 187, 180 pages, illustrated.
A great collection of articles on various aspects of antiquarian literature, of interest to book collectors. Articles in one volume include a review of Milton's "Paradise Lost", Welsh Bibles, the Cromwell family, the mathematics of John Venn, bookworm damage and prevention, Wodhull Library, The Book of Mormon. The Editor is not identified, and many of the articles are unattributed, but the named contributors include Richard Le Gallienne, Henry R. Plomer, J. O. Halliwell-Phillipps, J. H. Slater, and George F. Underhill.
As far as I can tell, the magazine did not run beyond 6 volumes.
Condition: binding is fragile, worn and split with signficant losses to spines; internally, the text blocks are somewhat browned, but clean.
