Chinese Red Lacquer & Gilt Wood Carving of Dignitary
Up for your consideration please find this wonderful old carving of an important and fierce looking official. We are not sure of the age but we personally believe that it is Qing Dynasty or possibly late Ming. It is almost 9" inches in height. It was originally part of an altar or larger assembly as evidenced by the small round hole carved into the back. The face is well-carved and thick layers of lacquer, probably cinnabar, cover his face and most of the piece. There is beautiful gilt throughout.
