About Artist :

Juran, whose birth and death dates are unknown, was born in Zhongling (now Nanchang, Jiangxi) and is said to be from Jiangning (Nanjing, Jiangsu). Painter and monk from the Five Dynasties to the early Northern Song Dynasty. [17]

In his early years, he became a monk at Kaiyuan Temple in Jiangning (now Nanjing). After the Southern Tang Dynasty surrendered to the Song Dynasty, he went to Bianjing (now Kaifeng, Henan) and resided at Kaibao Temple. During the period of Chunhua (990-995), he painted the misty mist and dawn scenery on the north wall of the bachelor's college and was praised by literati. [17]

Proficient in painting mountains and rivers, following the example of Dong Yuan, specializing in painting Jiangnan mountains and rivers. The peaks and peaks are often painted with alum heads, and the foothills of the forest are filled with pebbles and covered with sparse vines and grass. The narrow paths, dangerous bridges, and thatched houses are placed, creating a wild and peaceful atmosphere, which is deeply loved by literati. Painting mountains and rocks with long linen and delicate brushstrokes is the legitimate inheritance of Dong Yuan's painting style, and is also known as "Dong Ju". It has had a great impact on the development of landscape painting in the Yuan, Ming, Qing, and modern times. Paintings such as "Asking for Autumn Mountains", "Dwelling in Mountains", "Winning Orchid Pavilion with Xiao Yi", "Pine Wind in Thousand Gullies", "Trees in Stratified Rocks", and "Autumn Mountains" have been passed down from generation to generation.
