This wonderful textile is an antique French robe or cloak, dating to the late 1800s. I think it may have been a robe for a member of a choir! Or maybe for a judge? It is fairly small, so it may have been for a young adult. I am not really sure. This jacket is made of a lovely fine black cotton that was once chintzed, with little scalloped details trimmed in red around the collar. The top interior is lined with a charcoal gray and white plaid design. The number 21 is hand stitched in faded red on the plaid at the back of the neck. The cotton has a heavier feel, and is very soft, it feels kind of like moleskin! There are buttons for closing on the upper half of the front, and on each cuff. Lovely for wearing as a costume! ~*~ ~*~ ( E103 )
